There are a lot of questions about the Guyana World Cup 2007. Most of them are is Guyana ready to host such a large event? Will the upcoming elections currently uncertain whether it will be on time pose a threat to the Guyana World Cup 2007 being held in Guyana?

Guyana being a small under developed country in a 3rd world nation has a lot of problems. Elections are up-coming and always results in violence, thus the U.S. State department issues warning about traveling to Countries that are unstable.

We hope that for once in the History of Guyana elections that we can get through this one without the violence that comes from the opposing political parties.

Guyana is behind Schedule in building a new stadium to host the World Cup 2007 Matches and if we are not ready, all the investments made by local companies in hopes of making money from the thousands of visitors that will be in Guyana, will be lost.

Guyana is already a poor country and such a disaster as not being ready or having violence in the country would set Guyana back another 50 years in time making Guyana the poorest Country in the World.

I am certain if the Political Bodies get their acts together and complete the elections in a fair manner, we should have no problems in that area.

As far as the Stadium being ready? Well, we will have to wait and see what excuses the contractors will have.

Guyana World Cup Stadium building contract was not even given to a local company because the Government of Guyana has no confidence in its local contractors.

All in All, I hope we get through this once in a life time chance to prosper without hindrance from our own Government.

I find this article to be very true and says exacally what needs to be said to the Government of Guyana. If the Elections result in disaster, we will most certainly loose the Guyana World Cup Cricket Matches to another country. Guyana World Cup Cricket 2007 Matches being held in Guyana is very important to our economy!

There are lots of exaggerations in this article. I believe Guyana is a developing country. Of course the World Cup will propel the economy in Guyana, but it’s not realistic to presume that the country will fall as the poorest in the world.

There are very few exaggeratons in this article. I live here. Guyana is already close to being one of the poorest countries in the world. Guyana has not been developing except in the past 2 months because elections is upcomming which is always the case when the current president is about to be expelled! the only developement thus far is they are fixing a few roads and cleaning trenches. Kimron you should come back to Guyana and suffer with the rest of us that really knows whats going on.

Alex, I lived in Guyana long enough to know that it has economic potential to overcome what it is presently. Like most nations, it is the people (politician) who are responsible. Guyana has the resources to sustain itself. We just need some good leaders with long-term commitment. Guyana will never be the poorest in the world. Do some research or visit other countries, then you’ll realize what is suffering.

I can think of dozens of countries that are currently living in extreme poverty, well below Guyana’s living standards. I know this because I have a University Degree in World Issues.

Kimron, First of all, You sound like Burnham,"Guyana has the resources to sustain itself" yes that is what he thought to. However we do not have the resources. If the Guyana World Cup 2007 does not happen we are in a lot of trouble as most of our businesses are investing it the event. the same resources we depend upon.
